Ryoutaneko: Top Cat of Bakenekoya by aachi-chan Ryoutaneko: Top Cat of Bakenekoya by aachi-chan
Edit X2: Shaded and finished!

Edit: I made a better background. I made it to imitate the background of what I call 'the non-main character intro' part of the first season's first opening sequence. In that segment the background has a purple splotchy background with the 'Fear' symbol just like this (the Fear Symbol is the symbol for the Nura clan). Just FYI that very first anime opening sequence is my fave! I love the song and the animation. it's so neat :D

I added the text on the left just for this pic. It says 'Ryoutaneko Bakenekogumi no oyabun' which translates to 'Ryoutaneko leader (as in the yakuza term for leader) of the ghost cat clan'. (oh and as for the deviation title.. 'Bakenekoya' is the name of the restaurant that the Bakenekogumi runs)

The clans and groups in Nurarihyon no Mago work like yakuza clans do, so they use yakuza terms a lot. Ryoutaneko's underlings actually call him 'Oyabe' (or what sounds like it from the Japanese anime and the subtitle reads that as 'boss',)so I'm assuming it's probably slang for 'Oyabun'. (I would read the untranslated manga if I could find any to make sure I am correct in what it is they refer to him as, but all the ones I read from Mangareader.net and the like have already cleaned off most of the original Japanese text and replaced it with translation.) oh well :shrug:

I will shade this later still

~~~
In my contribution to the April fool's thing I made Ryoutaneko from Nurarihyon no Mago (A.K.A. Nura: Rise of the Youkai Clan)
Ryoutaneko is the cat boss of the youkai cats (cat demons) in Ukiyoe town under the protection of the Nura clan and he is owner of the Bakenekoya restaurant as well.
I love Ryoutaneko. He's so cute. In the cast of 100+ characters of Nurarihyon no Mago (really, theres' a TON of characters) he's a fairly minor character, but I still love him.
This pic took a lot longer than I had planned on... I had only planned on making a sketch but it ended up being inked with the pen tool cus I just couldn't leave the lines all sketchy. Damn my OCD! :shakefist:
Well anyway, enjoy some overdue drawing from Aachi. I may shade this later.
lol glad you like it :D well, how I did this one, I sketched it in Sai (because photoshop doesn't like my tablet pen anymore and also, you can rotate the canvas in sai. makes sketching a lot easier) I was going to just make the lines in sai and paint it there too, but I decided I wanted finer lines so I used the pen tool in photoshop, that's how I cel-shaded it too. And there's a light gradient overlay like the anime uses, so it's not completely flat colored, but the gradient doesn't stand out a lot. The background was a speckled grundge brush all over it then I used a filter. :D
Oh man... I wished I had a tablet too then...! :XD: That way I can sketch directly inside the computer~.
But, you're so good at using the feature with photoshop and sai... How envious. I wished I was that good too.
But... well, I like drawing and coloring traditionally too... ah, such dilemma~
thanks ^_^ well I've been drawing since I can remember and on the computer for maybe 8 years... so I really should be better than I am, but drawing has been pulled back to just a fun pastime since school at the Art Institute. Learned lots of art techniques and stuff.. but it sucked my desire to draw away pretty quick and for a fairly long time. Sculpting is my main focus now :D
If you want to draw traditionally but on the computer, I recommend looking into Corel Painter. It simulated most kinds of traditional drawing/painting media. It's super cool! You should at least play with the demo, even if you don't have a tablet to really tap into it's abilities, its still fun to goof around with you mouse. [link] some of the Wacom tablets come with corel painter essentials and photoshop essentials with it, which are limited versions of the full, but worth it for the cheap price.
Yeah~ that sounds so nice and professionals! I look at some of your crafts. They are amazingly detail! Wonderful! :XD: I'm so happy that I get to know a professional artisan like you! :love:
I collected figures from the animanga that I really like. But usually, I only buy the figures that are sold in my country. Sadly, I haven't found the Nuramago ones. Maybe someday~ *hopeful*
Hmm... to tell you the truth, I'm not that good with computer because I learned to use it only when I turned 14. In the past 10 years, I've only worked on the Microsoft Offices for my work because they are essential, so playing with graphic software is a little out of my league. Well, I want to learn now, though... Hopefully, I get to do that soon... if my real life isn't interfering too much... ehehe ^^;
