Description

Nov 21 - She's finally done! Today I ended up spending more time doing touch ups on her when I put her together than I did doing the first painting on her for the day. When I put her together parts rubbed together and the paint came off and where I had gripped her body the paint slid under the pressure it took to get her body parts to snap together. So her paint in the torso in the back and on her tummy aren't as smooth as when I first painted it but there's not much I can do at this point. It doesn't look bad or anything, it's just not as nice as it was before and it makes me sad :( However I think that overall she came out looking pretty good!

Nov 20 - Several times tonight my black paint jar leaked paint all over my hands and all over the lid when I opened it which would make me have to spend the next 15 minutes or so cleaning it all up. The jar may not be sealing all the way anymore. Either way I'm getting really frustrated and so I'm going to call it a night and finish her tomorrow. I got about 3/4 of the way done painting her. All she needs is the black paint that's causes me troubles and the shine to her eyes then the sealing and she'll be done!

Nov 20 - Got some airbrushing done. I'm really happy with those gun blasts! unfortunately I don't have any gloss or semi gloss spray sealant anymore so hopefully the paint won't get scratched off of that. I do have matte tho so I can seal Kate herself at least. Now just need to hand paint the rest of her and she'll be done! Will get her done with painting tonight then work on Honey :D

Nov 19 - Got the sword painted! The handle didn't come out as good as I wanted it too but I think it's still pretty good at least. I do kind of have high goals when I make stuff lol. Since the reference image had a different color of metal where the bevel of the blade was because of the polishing, sharpening etc. I thought it would be best to just paint that metal difference instead of sanding it like that. I did try to sand that edge into it but it just doesn't have that great of a distinction between the levels because its so tiny. so the slightly different colors of metallic paint seems to work well... also that's paint on my finger from the sword handle...not blood lol

Nov 19 - Made the handle for the short short. I wanted to make it a braided handle like those swords have.. but it's really hard to do with 1 mm tubes of clay lol But I think I did an alright job :D

Nov 19 - Ready to paint Kate. I trimmed up her hair a little more and sanded her mouth off because I didn't like where it was before and I am just going to paint her smile one when I paint her. The short sword just needs the handle which I'm going to do with polymer clay so it will be faster.

Nov 18 - trimmed back some of her hair. I don't think I can get much more than that trimmed back without taking off entire chunks of hair. Need to sand and trim the little strand of hair once it's dried.

Nov 18 - Almost done with sculpting. Her hair came out....bigger than I planned on. Once it's all dry I'm going to try and trim it down a little before I add the black 'strand' of hair that comes out of the top. Still need to trim up the sword and add the handle too. Will also do that once what I just put on there today is all dry.

Nov 13 - Got more done on Kate. Made her belt, finished sculpting and fixing up her torso and got it primed, painted the arms, made the blade for her short sword (well I carved it today from the epoxy I put together in a sword shaped blob the other day), made her face and put a few echidna locks of hair on, and I also got almost everything done on her legs. Now I just need to put the last boot cuff on and do some minor fixes to the legs them prime and paint the, finish her hair and paint it and her face, paint the belt and finish the sword... and I think that's it.

Nov 12 - well so much for dying the joints black. it seems like everything BUT the joints will take the dye. They must be made out of different kind of plastic. I even tried sanding the joints so they would soak up the dye and it didn't work T_T I guess i'll just have to paint the joints and seal them and hope the paint doesn't rub off T_T

Nov 11 - Finished the hands the other day. been working on extending the upper leg and the torso to fix those big gaps. The epoxy takes a while to dry though so it's a slow process.

Nov 7 - Since my thumb is still healing since the last time I gouged it I thought I would do some nice safe painting on Kate's guns to get some work done on her. I swear I must have put like 50 coats of paint on these little buggers. But I think they turned out pretty well for not being airbrushed.

Nov 6 - Got a little more done on kate. More paint removed and I also put her 'sleeve' things on from the original jacket. I ended up putting it on her a little different than I planned but I think this way will work better and it should probably have less problems than if I put it on her the other way. I also cut myself again carving off the extra plastic T_T I really need to get like some sort of thumb protector or something. Where would I even get something like that?

oct 29 again - I added some quick sketch thingies of different color ideas for the guns. For all of them the black would be like a 'gun metal' color.... cus gun metal looks awesome >_> ... anyway the black handles for the first option would be just regular black.

oct 29- trying to get some work done today. Stripping the paint on the doll is taking more time than I thought it would >.< oh well. Once the paint is all off it should be fairly easy. Running into a couple of problems but I think I can fix them. Like with the hips/legs/torso edges. Because the original doll had a dress there's a big gap between her pelvis and everything else so I'm going to have to sculpt onto her pelvis to extend it to her legs and I think I will sculpt onto the torso to extend that to her pelvis.... or maybe I'll sculpt onto the legs to her pelvis.. mmm need to think about that. problem with sculpting on the pelvis is it is flexible pvc so it would be kind of hard to sculpt onto it and it would also lose it's flexibility... I'll need to think on that. Also without her jacket the doll has no shoulders. So I think I am going to use the jacket like I drew in the sketch. I'll adjust it to match Kate's outfit and basically sculpt it onto the top of the torso so I can use it as shoulders that are flexible. I think this should work. I'm just worried about the paint not bending...  but if I use some of my lightbodied paint that can also be used for fabric paint I think it should work.. I will test it on some of the flexi pvc that I won't be using for the final doll to see if it works. Also, I took off the X and paint on the one gun. The finished new guns will be black... not sure what to color the handle and the parts where the original gun was black... maybe another shade of black... or maybe silver.. or red.

Think I'm done dealing with acetone for today.. it's not very fun when I get it in my wound on my thumb T_T lol so I'm going to work on Honey now :D then after I get her armature, then to paint Fox and Wolf and some on Zelda!

Oct 28 - I got the doll from :iconkatetheechidna: today. I will be customizing the doll to make it into her character Kate Outfit v.2 by KateTheEchidna I always wanted to do a doll mod like this (not the ones with the real doll hair but the sculpted stuff) so this will be fun. Obviously I haven't done anything with the doll yet, I just wanted to show what the original pieces look like before I start mutilat--I mean customizing her LOL
